Senior Mine Planning Engineer

This position is based between Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation; both located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital, Vientiane.  Phu Kham is a conventional open pit mine producing approximately 65,000 tonnes of copper concentrate annually.  The process plant, recently upgraded to a design capacity of 16 million tonnes per annum, comprises a SAG mill and two ball mill grinding circuits, each rated at 13 mega watts, with copper and precious metal recovery by flotation. Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation is an open cut mine with a Carbon in Leach (CIL) process plant, which producing approximately 100,000 oz gold and 780,000 oz silver annually.

Reporting to the PanAust Asia Mine Planning Superintendent, as part of a shared technical services department, you will focus on the provision of delivering an excellent long-term mine planning service which includes budget planning, strategic inputs and driving critical projects for the operations. Although this role has no direct reports, you will be required to provide technical support, coaching and mentoring to the relatively inexperienced, but very keen and willing, local Lao workforce.

 Your key responsibilities will include:

•  Provide strategic input to the LOM and Business plans for the operations
•  Analysis of equipment and costs for budget purposes
•  Generate budget plans and documentation for the operations based on the LOM plan
•  Review operational plans and design changes
•  Provide assistance in the Ore Reserve process
•  Coordinate all required prerequisites of designs for Pit, Waste Dump, TSF and other designs
•  Monitor Mining Operations Team adherence to mine and dump schedules and designs
•  Analyse mining operation performance against plans and budget
•  Perform fleet simulations within TALPAC for fleet analysis and preparation of capital justifications  for equipment
•  Produce high quality reports and presentations to support planning outcomes
•  Develop, maintain and document processes for the planning function
•  Utilise proven and modern mine planning systems to achieve best practice integrated mine

 To be successful in this role, you will require: 

• A degree qualification in Mining Engineering with considerable experience in open cut mine planning and design in a senior role, with either a large mining contractor or owner miner
• Experience in multiple commodities is preferred
• Strong planning and analytical skills coupled with solid exposure in Surpac and MineSched. Additional exposure to MineMax would be an advantage
